Mexican Wrestling & Fighting Ignorance

The thing I like most about YouTube is that you can learn a lot of new stuff.  What kind of stuff?  Whatever kind of stuff you don't already know about but would like to learn a lot about.  Also, stuff that you didn't even know you'd enjoy learning a lot about but now that you know a little about it, you'd like to learn more.  Not to mention stuff that you never knew about, you don't care about, and you're pretty sure the extra knowledge is forcing out brain cells that hold more useful information.  YouTube helps you cure your own ignorance.

For instance,

Wow that was neat. Here's what I learned:

1) Mexico is a real place
2) In Mexico everyone wears masks
3) Mexicans are highly acrobatic

See? Now I'm not ignorant.

One-man bands

"We've come a long way since organ grinders and monkeys." -F. Scott Fitzgerald

I meant to post this one earlier along with the other versions of this song. Bobby Joe Neely is available for your parties, and not just to hang out but also to play.

Tapping

Tapping is probably as technically advanced as you can get with a stringed instrument.  If you're impatient, just watch the last clip and move along...

Some Turkish folk on a Baglama:

Jascha Heifetz covers Niccolo Paganini!  Did you ever think you'd see the day?!?

Main Event:  Needless to say, Erik Mongrain has achieved master status.

Hometown attractions

Come to Pittsburgh and ride the incline, visit the Andy Warhol museum, and eat in the Strip District.  After you're done, consider taking in a little of our local culture:

Waterfront Crackhead has been doing his thing for no one knows how long.

Crazy Running Lady of Pittsburgh has been trying to catch the same bus for the past 15 years.

And then there's Crazy Legs Fitzsimmons aka the Disco Kid

Word to the wise, we have a little bit of a drug problem in our fair city but don't let that scare you off. The men in blue are on it.

So visit Pittsburgh! And try a Primanti's sandwich!

Happy New Year / Music

YouTube is also good for classic musical performances, old MTV music videos, new music videos (since MTV's change in format), grainy footage of live performances...

This is really its own category, which brings us to three:  Monkey peeing into its own mouth, comedy, music.

I really hope ABBA invites me to their New Years Party.

Mitch Magee

Mitch Magee is a regular contributor to Channel 102 in New York.  I'm not going to explain Channel 102 because I've never been to one of their live screenings and everything I know about it comes from the Wikipedia page... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Channel_102 and their website... http://ny.channel101.com/.  So there you go, you're just as knowledgeable as I am now.

Here is a brief synopsis of Mitch Magee's offerings:

"Mister Glasses" - One of the world's most preeminent modernist architects fell on tough times due to the public's fickle tastes.  Now, with the help of some new friends, he uses modernism to solve real world problems with functionality and logical simplicity.  This is episode 2 of 6.  I think its the most representative of this series.

"Welcome to My Study" - Mitchell is a man haunted by his past which, from what I've gathered, includes an abusive father, heartbreak, and general unspeakable horrors.  He has seen things, things he just chooses not to talk about.  Things that only seem to frighten and offend most everybody.  Still, Mitchell tries to make the best of things.  I laughed at this so hard I couldn't breathe.  There are 5 episodes plus a Christmas special.

"Sexual Intercourse: American Style" - Meh.  Look it up on your own if you're interested...
